  1. Once upon a time there dwelt a poor man who had a son named Balf and he was kept going to school till he was a famous scholar. A gentleman lived in the neighbourhood who had a lovely daughter named Mary and she and young Balf went to school together and on their return they always helped each other with sums. The gentleman thought they loved each other and stopped Mary from going to school. So when Balf heard of it he was so displeased that he made up his mind to leave the country.
