  1. It being of a fine summer's evening
    All in the year '64
The Cherry trees were approaching their burries
When I took out my scythe for to mow
My hand it being fair in a motion
I had a scythe board and hook of my own
My scythe was by welcome completed
As I from the heavens were thrown.

    (II)
I maid out my way to Tipperary
Where the hay do spontaineously grow
I stood at a meeting in Corha
And I took out my scythe for to show
    A widow convenient to Ransha
    Observing me standing alone
    She modestly made her appearance
And said she had hay for to mow
She asked me what Country I came from
Or where was my place of abode
Or was it by daily employment
Or task work Ide like for to mow.

    (III)
She showed me the meadow next morning
And told me to cut it quite low
