    Shipwrecks..
On the shore in Labasheeda a large flat tombstone enclosed by huge rocks is to be seen .Old people narrate that a shipwrecked sailor is buried there. It appears that a boat with a cargo of pigs was on its way from Limerick and near Labasheeda a stiff gale arose. The boat was buffetted about by the wind and the captain was obliged to take shelter in Labasheeda Bay..As he was changing his course ,a sudden squell caught the boat and not having made sufficient leeway ,she was thrown on her side with the cargo of pigs heaped there also, consequently she was unable to right herself ,and she sank to the bottom of the sea with all her cargo.
The crew perished ,and days later a corpse floated ashore near Labasheeda .The local people dug a huge grave ,above the high-watermark,and the body of the unknown sailor was buried there.A large plain tombstone without any epitaph was placed on top ,and huge boulders were placed around it so as to prevent trespass.
