Ar an leathanach seo

  1. In the month of october in the year ninteen hundred and twelve a ship was wrecked at Spanish Point, named the kelp. with a fierce gale she was driven up on the rocks with her side badly holed. She was a steel ship, not a bit of timber in it except the inside work. Her cargo consisted of raw hides and fats. She sailed from the Falkland Islands to England.
    All the crew were saved they were brought into a house in the neighbourhood where they were warmed and refreshed. They were then taken to a hotel at Miltown Malbay, and they remained there during the night. They were very entertaining men, they sang songs and told stories about their voyages in far off seas. The cargo in course of a few days was taken to Miltown Malbay station and sent across to England. They had a few beautiful marble slabs on board.
    The hides were partly decayed and it was very hard for the men that were employed to remain on the job. It is said that some of the diseases came to the cattle of the district around
