- The names of the local roads are, Kilbarry Road, New Line Road, Coole Road, Lukey's Hill and Wigmore's Hill. The new line was made by a man named Harry Wigmore in the year seventeen eighty. He made this because they failed to make a canal on the Blackwater. The Strawhall and Ballyoran roads were made as relief work during the famine and the wages was one shilling per day. There is a mountain pass in Rice's gorse and another in the Ballyhooly mountains. It is called Bearna an Cathaoir Dearg because when the sun sets behind the mountains in the evening it is like a red chair.
The Blackwater is crossed by fords in Atha Coillig and in Gerah.
There are heaps of stones in Leahy's hills and there is a Mass path in Gerah.- Bailitheoir
