  2. Cholera broke out in 1849. While it lasted the Srs. of Mercy nursed the patients night and day in the Workhouse Hospital and as a reward were allowed to visit the Workhouse having been refused permission up to that time. After that the Srs. visited the poor inmates weekly until 1893 when after inconceivable difficulties, overcome by the priests four sisters took up their abode there to nurse the patients.
