  1. "As I strolled out one fine evening.
    Down by a green shady grove.
    I heard a pilgrim talking.
    In these expressive words
    Adieu! Adieu! Thou faithless world,
    Thou wert never made for me.
    His eyes were lifted up to heaven.
    And his beard reached to his knees
    On his shoulders hung a mantle
    And a sackcloth shirt he wore
    His bed was made of rushes.
    That grew down by the shore."
    The above was composed in honour of Brother Anslem.
    Brother Anslem was a hermit, who lived for a time at Poll na Long, and later on he came to Kinsale, and built his little hut on Compass Hill There were stakes found in the ground on the hill and it is believed
