  1. Old Songs

Long ago many songs were composed in the locality.

Long ago many songs were composed in this locality. There was a song composed about a steam-boat the the "Memphis" which was wrecked in Dunlough bay in a dense fog. This bay is situated a couple of miles to the west of Crookhaven about 40 years ago. The name of the song is "The wreck of Dunlough bay"
    The "Memphis" she left Montreal
    The weather it was fine
Said the captain to his officers
"We'll have a jolly old time".
But when they neared the Irish coast
They ran into a thick fog
And the Captain lost his reckoning
By an error in the log.
    The man upon the forecastle
    Thought he saw a light
And they though it was the Fastnet
Rock on a stormy winter's night
And it was by that fatal error that
she was lost in Dunlough bay
