    Her lovely hills and valleys,
    Her red and rosy dells,
While round about on either side the blue Atlantic swells.
If you look back in history,
    Back to the Penal Days.
'Tis there you will find the Mizen bold,
    To fill a glorious page.
'Twas there you would find our Irish boys
    Bedecked in war's array
And how the French were quartered there
    back in Bantry Bay.
    But mavrone, disaster came.
Their hearts got as cold as lead,
Where the gallant French transport was wrecked,
    Here off the Mizen Head
'Twas there they lost their precious lives
    As you may plainly see,
Beneath the secret water of Tobar na cláraighe.
This poem was composed by the late Mr Cornelius Leary, Dunlough
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
