  1. The kinds of bread that were made in the olden times were potato bread, oaten bread, bran bread. Wheat was made into flour and bread was made from it in the olden times. They used to make the flour with grindstones. These grindstones were called querns for grinding the corn. The querns were made of two round stones and one had a hollow in the middle. the other had a hump which fitted into the hollow. They used to mash up the potatoes and mix them through the flour, and wetted with water instead of milk. Sometimes they used to wet the flour with goats milk. The people used to mix the oaten meal with the flour and wet it with water. They used to mix bran through the flour and wet it with milk. In the olden times people used to bake on a Monday and it would last for a week.
