  1. There lived some years ago a man named Paddy Higgins at the entrance gate of Ballycuneen house. Every night the gate used to be bolted. It was his business to open the gate for all carriages that passed. One night about twelve o'clock he heard a carriage as he thought coming down the road towards the gate. He got up to open the gate and just as he was opening the door the carriage passed through the gate although it was locked. Next day the owner of the big house was dead.
