  1. At the time of the famine the English sent a vessel to Cobh and gathered all the potatoes around. A party from the great Island and Carrigtwohill captured the vessel. They locked up the sailors and captain and distributed the potatoes among the people. People can still point out houses occupied by the people then. The potatoes turned black and decayed. The people used sow them in the morning and take them up in the night they be over the ground. The people ate stirabout instead. The people of Carrigtwohill would not be left buy any meal. Willam Coppinger bought all the meal
