  1. Long ago people had very rough roofs on their houses. The roofs were made of mud and stone. Some people used sleep in straw on the ground. The settles used be put near the fire. The fireplace was in the middle of the front wall. The front of the chimney was made of mortar. Some houses had not any chimney only holes in the roof. Some houses had no windows only boards. Half doors are common in the district. Sticks were used in fires.
