  1. Mr Jeremiah O'Sullivan's house in Coolagh was burned by the Black and Tans as it was suspected that he was harbouring and helping members of the I.R.A. in his house, but afterwards he applied for compensation for the damage and it was granted to him and the house was re-built.
    Schull Union was burned by the I.R.A. about June 1922 and it was not re-built since.

  2. A drought period occurred in the year 1857. It is called "the dry summer". Some people had to go miles for fresh water. The rivers dried up and boggy ground split open.
