  1. Father Birch was a landlord of Borris-in-Ossory. The rents he devoted to the Propagation of the Faith. Many a time he received none. Once a tenant would not pay his rent and Father Birch brought him to court. The solicitor engaged by the tenant began to shake his finger at the priest as he stood in the witness box. Thereupon Father Birch told him to keep quiet. Again he told him but he would not obey so immediately the solicitor dropped dead and his finger remained pointing upwards. A coffin had to be made with room for his hand which had to be left upwards.
