  1. One day when the Blessed Virgin was passing through a city she lost a needle which she had in her cloak. She went into a tailor's shop and asked the tailor for a sewing needle but he refused. She next went into a cobbler and she asked him for his awl and he gave it her. Ever since the cobbler's awl is blessed and the tailor's needle is cursed.
