- On the night of the 6th of January 1839 there was a very big wind. It did a great deal of damage as follows, killed cattle knocked down many big trees and there was a very big fall of rain. It knocked down my grandfather's that was built along the road. The man was terribly frightened and he got shelter from some of this friends while the house was being rebuilt. The storm lasted for one night only and in the morning the country was an awful sight to see with knocked trees strewn all over the roads.
