- In olden times match making would take place during Shrove, starting on the sixth of January. At that time match making would last eight or nine weeks. Girld would get big fortunes from their parents and sometimes they would get cattle.Then on their marriage day they would have a great marriage feast. They would have lots of drink. There used to be strawboys there and they used be dressed in every colour. They used turn their coats inside out. They would have feathers on their hats. When the married couple would be coming home they would be held up in the road by a rope. That was for good luck. Generally the friends would tie a shoe on the car the married pair were in.
