- Long ago when there were no creameries people used to set their milk in pans. The pans were then put on a milk stand in the dairy. The milk was left in the pans until it was turned. The milk used be then skimmed. The cream was then poured into a tub. The cream was removed from the tub after three or four days or put into churns or barrells and made into butter. In olden days there were two methods of making butter. The big farmer used make his butter by barrelling. The barrell was a much easier system of making than churning. The barrell was put on a four-legged stand. The stand was mounted with two bearings at both sides and the barrell was mounted at each end with a light axel and handles and the idea of having the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
