The flood carried away Hogan's hay and knocked Horgan's house. It knocked Lynch's house too. It did a great lot of damage. Cattle and sheep were drowned. The railway was covered with water so that the train was held up for a couple of days.
We had a long period of dry weather in 1914. The heat was so great that several birds died of thirst. Wells, streams, and ponds were all dried up. The people had to go three or four miles for water. The heat was so severe that the grass in the fields was burnt and there was water nowhere.
