- Long ago churning was very common but at present is rarely made in our district. The churn is about three feet high. It is like a barrel with two handles on each side. Twice a week the butter is made in Winter and once in Summer.
It is usually the woman of the house that makes the butter. If a stranger comes in during the churning they would have to take a turn at the work or the butter would not gather. No one was allowed to take a coal of fire while churning the butter, or the butter would be stolen. From one to two hours it takes the butter to be made, about one in(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
