- This castle is standing on the opposite side of the Shannon to Cratloe. It means ‘rock of the candle’ it appears a fairy woman used to appear in the castle ever night with a lighted candle in her hand. Any person who would see the candle would die immediately they had seen it. It was then thought that if anyone had courage to step up and quench the candle the fairy woman would disappear. One of the Fianna was brave enough to approach the Castle one night just at the midnight hour quenched the candle. The woman disappeared and was never seen since that night.
