- Long ago there were many famous men in Cratloe.
There was a tug o'war team in Cratloe and a song was composed about it as follows:
'T was at Bunratty Castle
Down by the Shannon side
There rose a great regatta
'T was there good men were tried,
Ten chosen from Bunratty
They were fit to draw a car
Then the Cratloe boys sent in ten more
To pull the tug o' war.
When the rope was given to each man
To catch it firm and strong
The Cratloe boys they gave one pull
And the others came along.
Cratloe was also noted for having some great faction fighters in olden times. The Coffeys, Kanes and Malleys, the Hannons, Heats and Frawleys, also the Moloneys, Keoghs and Crowleys strongly armed with black-thorn sticks visited the local fairs of Rosmanagher and Sixmilebridge.
