If dogs attack a flock of sheep, the whole flock should be disposed of lest they bring ill-luck on the owner. It was believed that such a flock would not prosper after having being attacked. There were special fields which it was considered unlucky to till. These were left as pasture land, lest death should occur in the family ,or some other misfortune. At Michaelmas a can of buttermilk into which a lump of fresh butter was put was sent to neighbours as a gift.On New Years Day neighbours went into each others houses early in the morning to wish the entire household "A Happy New Year".People took offence if this were not done.People did as much of the farm work as possible on New Year's Eve as it was considered wrong to do work not absolutely necessary on New Year's Day.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
