- Long ago people never wore boots until they reached about the age of eighteen but it is much different now. Long ago in Ireland the people wore boots of the same kind as they now wear in the West of Ireland especially in Connemara.We do not know of any people living locally who never wore boots or shoes. Children both boys and girls go barefoot in Summer. The girls do not go barefoot in the towns, but boys and girls go in the country.
