In the famine days there lived a poor man.

In the famine days there lived a poor man. He was working for another man and his wages were 1/ per day because he was doing very hard work. One day he was working with the man of the house and man of the house made him bet his wages that he would beat him in his work. The man made the bet and he started to work. He had the work done before the man of the house and won the bet. When that man of the house was done, the workman said to him that if he had been working from five o'clock the day before without eating anything it would be easy to beat him in the work. The man of the house asked him was it possible that he he had eaten nothing the day before "No" said the man I have eaten nothing since I ate my dinner yesterday, my wife is just coming with my dinner now.
