- In former years there were very few shops throughout the country and the people, had to go to the nearest town to purchase their goods and to sell their eggs and butter and whatever else they had to sell.In that time a lot of shopkeepers thought it unlucky to sell anything on a Sunday but most of the country shopkeepers sold small things such as cigarettes and tobacco. These things are still sold in some shops on Sunday.Sometimes the money was not always given for goods at the time the goods were got but it was paid afterwards. When goods were got [?] this way it is said that they were got on "tick."Goods were also got and paid for by labour.
