  1. It is the custom around this locality for marriages to take place before "Lent" and "Advent". Nearly all the marriage customs around this district have died out.
    People have different ideas as regards the days or months on which a marriage occurs. Saturday is said to be an unlucky day on which to get married. Some people still believe that it is unlucky for a wedding day to be wet.
    "Happy is the bride that
    the sun shines on.
    Thrice happy is the corpse
    that the rain rains on."
    Old people have superstitious ideas as regards the dress of the bride. There is an old saying that -:
    "Married in red you'd
    better be dead."
    An old custom that is still kept on is known as the "straw - boys". A number of boys dress
