- (continued from previous page)was placed a pot in the middle of the floor in the kitchen. Every farmer used two creels to hang on his ass's back. An ass and creels were the farmer's means of doing his farm work. The farmer's wife would often sit on her ass and creels and bring home her "wants" from the market on Monday. So you see baskets and creels were the principal things about a farmer's place.
