The robins, rooks, jackdaws, hedge sparrows, black birds, thrushes, willie wagtails, "stares", swallows, cuckoo, water hens, larks, goldfinches, wrens, pigeons, yellow yearns, magpies, corncrakes, are the most common birds in this district. The corncrake, swallow, and cuckoo, leave us in the Autumn and come back again about the middle of April.
    The rooks make a very big nest up in a very big tree. It is made of sticks, mud and straws. They lay various numbers of eggs which are blueish-grey in colour. When the people see a rooks nest they rob it because the rooks would destroy the crops and do harm
