There was a battle on Loughanlea, and a woman on one side had a bottle with a cure with which she could put the head again on a man, if it were cut off. Her side was beaten, and then she threw the bottle into the lake on the mountain, which was formerly much bigger. It was drained when peat was cut from around it.
The lake became possessed of curative qualities and the water could cure any disease. Hence the name Loughanlea. The same woman lifted a pile of stones in her lap and with them made the cairn on the mountain.- Bailitheoir
