  1. 1 As I did stray on a spacious evening
For speculation to take my view
I drew convenient to a crystal fountain
Where pinks & dasies by nature grew
    I stood delighted although benighted
I still kept pondering beneath the flood
The fish were schooling from foreign fishponds
And came for refuge to Ravenswood.
    2. Night silent arbours fell on the bower
The feathered warbler to rest inclined
Lest to disturb them from their slumbers
Beneath the glasshouse I did recline
As day was breaking their tunes awake me
The dove and pheasant around me did roam
The lark & linnet their notes were changing
The thrush had weaned me from thoughts of home
3 Its like mid summer in cold December
No storm shudders its gentle mood
With flood gates quaking & ramparts shaking
    All storms ceases at Ravenswood
4 Amid the centre of the smooth going water
A stately island is erected there
A lonely refuge for duck & partridge
At all times from the winter air
An oval fishpond I next perceived it
And it supported by a kennel fair
The trout & salmon by nature swimming
And the swan courageously her course did steer.
