Ar an leathanach seo
- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)bears a white or pinkish flower. When this dies, a round fruit is formed with many small seeds in it. This is green at first, and turns brown as it ripens. The fruit of the potato is called a potato apple. If the apple is allowed to ripen and is then broken up seeds can be taken out. New kinds of potatoes are got by keeping these seeds in a dry place during winter and sowing them in Spring. The little potatoes that grow from these are planted next year and give fair-sized potatoes. In the third year they are of the usual size. There is a certain amount of poison in the potato. A plant of the potato family is common in the country hedgerows. It bears bright red berries like currants and is called nightshade.
