  1. Bread was made from oats that was grown on the farms locally. The oats was made into oaten meal and the bread was made from it.

  2. Long ago bread was made from oaten meal. The meal was wetted with cold water but nothing else was put in it. It was baked on a griddle. It took the same to bake as a flour cake.
