  1. As I laid myself down to rest
I gave my soul to God to keep,
There are four corners on my bed there are four angels overspread,
    Matthew, mark, Luke and John
God bless the bed that I lie on,
As I go to my bed as I go to my grave the lord that knows that I shall wake,
And if I die before I wake I pray to God my soul may he take.
Into thy hands Oh! Lord; lord Jesus receive my soul,
Lord by thy branch, lady by the flower,
Sweet Jesus, Mary and Joseph be with me at my dying hour,
(Said when going to bed at night).
