  2. Long ago oaten bread was eaten. Sounds were used long ago - oaten meal and seeds from a mill were put in water for one day and then the sounds were made. If a person was sick the sounds would be left steeping in the water until it would be sour and it would be given who would be sick. It was called flummery. Boxty bread was made from the juice of potatoes. The juice of potatoes wetted the meal and it was baked like ordinary cakes.
