- In the olden times up to the time of the famine potatoes (was) were the principal food. They were used twice a day, for dinner and for supper. The people used oaten-meal porridge and oaten bread for their breakfast. Some people made cakes out of potatoes and baked them on griddles. About ninty years ago tea was first used.
