  1. In olden times when the teachers were hunted for teaching, there was a man who taught a school in the crab orchard in Mr. Foxe's field in the townland of Moigh and the county of Longford. He slept under a bush and that bush is still to be seen and its name is "Cummins's Kitchen."
    The Bleeding Bush
    In the townland of Darogue about 170 years ago there stood a lone bush in front of Pat Horse's door. One winter Pat got short of fire and he got his saw and started to cut the bush. No sooner had he put the saw to the bush when it started to bleed so he left it there and the trunk is still there.
    The Famine
    The famine so severely affected my district that it swept thirty six families from Lara: eight from Darogue and three from Gurteen. When the potatoes failed companies organised through the country and it was in that year that the "Champions" came to Ireland. All the potatoes rotted in the ground.
    The Golden Horse
    There is a cave in my district which is about a mile and a half long. In it there are little rooms, the entrances to these rooms are locked. One daring man went into
