   travel by car, others cycle or walk. The coffin is borne into the graveyard on the shoulders of the nearest male relatives, and lowered into the grave which has already been dug by men appointed to do so.
   The priest recites the prayers for the occasion, blesses the clay, and throws in the first shovelful on the coffin.
   Three or four men then fill in the grave the mourners looking on. When the grave is filled in and the mound made neat, all kneel down, and prayers are recited again after which all disperse.
   The custom of providing clay pipes, tobacco, and snuff for mourners at wakes has died away in this locality. It still exists in parts of Co. Leitrim. Each man visiting the corpse room is handed a clay pipe filled with tobacco. Every time he smokes he says "The Lord have mercy on the dead."
   A plateful of snuff was left on a table for the women's use. Those taking it were expected to say the same prayer. Some forty years ago, drink
