- There was an old industry in Clonmellon long ago, it was the making of nails, they were made by people of the name of Legates. They used to make them of a nail rod, a fire, and a light anvil.They used to make the nails and put them in a sack according to the weight, and sell them in the shops. They used to have contracts with big shops.While making these nails, they used to wear white paper caps and big black aprons.The last one of the Legates named Patrick Legate died about thirty years ago.
