Ar an leathanach seo

  1. "It is all over like the Fair of Fore"
This is one of our local proverbs.
    It originated in this way.
Several years ago there was an annual fair held in the village of fore, Co. Westmeath But Fore is very remote from any railway station, and the fairs have not been held there during the past hundred years or so. This gave rise to the above expression. We have another local saying viz.,
"You are in the middle of the way like the market house in Collinstown"
This village, which is also in Westmeath, is at a crossroads, and the market house is right in the centre. "I will see you at the chapel on Sunday" is a local expression which means that a person has no intention of paying a debt.
The following are proverbs which I have often heard from people in this district.
"The older the fiddle the sweeter the tune"
    "Hills are green far away"
(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
Tras-scríofa ag duine dár meitheal tras-scríbhneoirí deonacha.
