at night because his wife was always scolding him. One night he was going home rather late. He thought he would take the short cut, which lay convenient to the fort. As he was passing he met a little man who invited him to have a game of cards with him. At first he refused saying his wife would scold him. The little man said "never mind her for to-night". They started to play. He had great luck. He won heaps of money from the little man. He put the notes in one pocket and the gold in the other. The little man warned him not to speak to his wife until he emptied the money on to the table. When he was going near his home his wife came to the door and began to scold him as usual. He forgot what he was told and said "I have as much money here as will make us happy all our life". He put his hand in his pocket to take out the notes all he had was dried leaves and a lot of broken clay pipes. He heard more than ever then.
