  1. I got the following story from my Auntie, who is well over eighty years of age.
Her father was in the police long ago. He was born in 1800.
One night he was out with the sergeant on patrol duty and the sergeant told him that for the past two nights he had dreamt that there was a crock of gold under a lone bush in a certain field in Duleek district, and the third night he dreamt he was all covered with dirt and mud.
My grandfather said that as the sergeant had dreamt so much about the bush it might be just as well to go over and look at it.
Over they went, and they were greatly surprised to find a big hole going down seven or eight feet in the ground by the lone bush just where the sergeant had dreamt the crock of gold was. There was nothing in the hole, but shortly afterwards a poor man who was only a harness-maker bought out a landlord's place, and always after seemed to have plenty of money.
The crock of gold was really there on the two nights that the sergeant dreamt about it. The harness-maker dreamt about it too, but he was quicker than the sergeant to go and look for it, so "The early bird got the worm."
