- 1. Long ago most of the people of the district instead of farming earned their living by spinning and weaving. At the present day there are still remains of old looms spinning wheels and shuttles in many houses. Nearly every house around the district had a loom or a spinning wheel. They also had carders with which to card the wool. In the district at the present day there "buck houses" to be seen in many places. In these "buck houses" the flax was scutched and dried From the people used to make linen sheets which are to be had in many houses still. There is a "buck house" in Carneys field near Tullyesker.
