- The animals on our farm are, three cows and six calves, two pigs and one horse. The cows shed is a large one with a thatched roof. The names of the cows are, Molly, Robby and Duff. When we are driving home the cows we say "how up." The cows are tied with chains with a post between each cow and they are tied by the neck. Over the door there is a shoe of an ass to bring luck on the stock. When the people are milking they say "cows back your leg." If the cows are wicked they say "Perish there." When they are done milking each cow they ..... their thumb in the froth and make the sign of the cross on the udder of the cow. Their bed is made of cement and behind them is paving-stones.
