- Old RuinsThere are very interesting old ruins about a mile from my place. They are situated to the north west of Doolough Lake in a lonely place called the Cúilnea. The local people call it Cabhal na mbráthar. It is said that the Franciscan Friars took refuge here when they were hunted from Quin Abbey by Cromwell about 400 years ago. I went to see the place and I saw the remains of a good many little huts and I saw the remains of a long building which is supposed to be their chapel. Written by Denis Murphy Scropul Mullagh, Co.
