- Many stories are related in connection with Caherhill. One of them is as follows.
In the adjoining lake there is a barrel of gold guarded by a large door.it is said that a passage ran through the hill under ground into a cave under the lake where the gold and dog are.
It is believed attempts were made to secure the gold. As all the people seeking the gold lost courage when they came as far as the dog, it is believed that the gold is there yet.
