Snaidhm na Luachair PéisteThis is a sort of charm used locally as a cure for calves suffering from gripe supposed to be caused by a species of rush worms in the stomach of the animal.
An ordinary piece of string or cord about 12 or 14 inches long is used and it is looped or knotted then drawn three times over the back of the beast while he is suffering from an attack of gripe .The accompanying sketch will help to show how the knots are are made ,and if correctly done ,they will all untie ,or come free again on pulling both ends of the cord.
The writer ,has seen this cure affected on several occasions.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
