    As I roved out one evening fair,
    All in the month of June
    To drink my fill upon the hill
    And rulers to subdue.
    Where often times I swigged before
    A drop of the mountain dew
    And mars and bargues lost no time
    The hazel splinters blew

    The wisest man may take a dram
    His spirits to revive
    But not to go too far with it
    Be sure take my advice
    The day being spent in merriment
    And thinking to retire
    When a rural maid accosted me
    She did my heart inspire

    When first I saw a damsel rare
    She filled my heart with joy
