  1. In the town of Miltown Malbay there was a very severe landlord named Birdie Moroney. At last a band of landleaguer's united together with the idea of opposing him and to force him to treat them in a proper and fair way. His deeds were most cruel and he is still spoken in the locality. Among the leaguer's were three blacksmiths who, as part of the plan, refused to shoe Moroney's horses.
The following poem will give the story in detail:-
    Three brave blacksmiths
    Down the County Clare
They wouldn't shoe the grabber's horse
    They wouldn't shoe his mare
    They wouldn't take his money
And his threats they didn't care
Signs by they got their punishment
    A week for every nail
